Flake vs. Metallic vs. Solid Color Epoxy: Which Finish Fits Your Floor?
By Santa Monica Epoxy Flooring · Updated · 1 min read

Flake ($6.50–$10 per sq ft, 1 day) is the best garage floor for most people: it hides dirt and has grip. Solid color ($9.50–$11.50, about 3 days) suits gyms, studios and shops. Metallic ($12.50–$18.50, 3–4 days) is the showpiece for interiors and show garages.
Flake
Vinyl chips broadcast into the basecoat until it is fully covered, then sealed. The texture gives grip and the pattern hides sand, dust and tire marks. Blends like Glacier, Yukon and Everest are the gray-family favorites here; Carlsbad and Saguaro are warmer tans.
Solid color
A pigmented build coat and a second color coat under a topcoat. It looks clean and modern but shows dust more than flake. Mid-grays hide it best. Add grit for gyms.
Metallic
A metallic-pigmented epoxy worked by hand so it moves and pools, then sealed. No two floors look alike. It shows scratches more than flake, so it is better indoors or in a garage that is mostly for show.
