Metallic Epoxy: Quick Answer
Metallic epoxy costs $12.50–$18.50 per sq ft in Santa Monica, or $5,000–$7,400 for a two-car garage, and takes 3–4 days because each layer must cure.
Over a ground and primed slab we pour a metallic-pigmented epoxy and move it by hand and roller to create depth, then seal it under a clear topcoat. It is popular in show garages in Brentwood and Beverly Hills, and in studios and living spaces closer to the beach where sand would scratch wood.
Metallic shows scratches and dust more than flake. For a working garage, flake is the better choice; for a room you want to look at, metallic is.

What Can Raise or Lower Your Quote
Prep: the other half of the price
The system sets the per-foot range; the slab decides where you land in it. We price these after we see the slab, so a bare, sound floor is quoted at the low end and you only pay for prep you actually need.
- Grinding off an old coating, sealer or paint
- Removing carpet glue, tile mastic or mat adhesive
- Advanced crack and spall repair
- Demolishing an existing floor before coating
- Moisture mitigation on a slab that reads damp
- Extra labor for tight access, oil-soaked concrete or heavy cleanup
How It Goes In
- Moisture test and walk-through: we read the slab and mark cracks before anything starts.
- Diamond grinding: opens the concrete so the coating can bite. No acid etching.
- Dust control: HEPA vacuums pull the grinding dust as we go.
- Repairs: cracks, pits and spalls filled and ground flush.
- Basecoat: moisture-tolerant epoxy or pigmented polyaspartic, picked for your slab.
- Broadcast: flake or quartz thrown until the basecoat is covered, or a metallic pour.
- Scrape and vacuum: loose chips come off so the surface is even.
- Topcoat: clear polyaspartic rated for hot tires and sun.
Metallic Epoxy FAQ
How long does metallic epoxy take?
Three to four days including cure time between layers.
Can metallic epoxy go in a living room?
Yes. Interiors, studios and showrooms are where it looks best.
Is metallic epoxy durable in a garage?
Yes, but it shows wear and scratches more than flake. A urethane topcoat helps.
What prep work can add to an epoxy floor quote?
Prep is the other half of the price. Grinding off an old coating or paint, removing carpet or tile glue, advanced crack and spall repair, tearing out an existing floor, moisture mitigation on a damp slab, and extra labor for tight access or heavy cleanup all add time and material. We price these after seeing the slab, so a bare, sound slab is quoted at the low end.
