Dust-mop weekly, wash with warm water and a pH-neutral cleaner every month or two, and wipe up oil and chemicals promptly. Avoid vinegar, citrus cleaners and soap that leaves film. Grit is what dulls a floor, so a door mat does more than any cleaner.

Weekly

  • Dust-mop or use a soft broom
  • Shake out the door mat

Monthly

  • Mop with warm water and a little pH-neutral cleaner
  • Rinse with clean water so it does not leave a film

Spills

  • Oil and brake fluid: wipe up with paper towels, then mop
  • Tire marks: a soft scrub pad with cleaner
  • Road salt or sand: sweep, then rinse

Avoid

  • Vinegar and citrus cleaners, which can dull the topcoat
  • Dish soap that leaves film
  • Steel wool or wire brushes
  • Dragging metal stands without pads

When to recoat

When the tire paths look dull even after cleaning. A scuff-sand and fresh topcoat brings it back without regrinding.
